Mount Pleasant Moms: Summertime Family Fun

We Mount Pleasant moms are thrilled to have our children home for the Summer, but when it's 90+ degrees outside, we need to have options, back-up plans, and most importantly a place to cool off!

Luckily, the Lowcountry caters to the outdoor mama, so there is plenty to choose from! Exibit A - beaches galore! Do you ever find yourself browsing Facebook, seeing your friends and family posting their pictures from their one-week-a-year beach vacation, and feeling a twinge of guilt because you just got back from an hour long beach jaunt to wear out your toddler before nap time? For many, the beaches are THE reason to move to Mount Pleasant. Not only do we have several beaches to choose from, beach access is crazy convenient, parking is free (unless you choose to pay), and with so many options, we are never packed like sardines.  We. Are. So. Lucky! Sure, the beach can be a little work. Sandy kids, way more toys than you need, and a chair/towel per person can be a lot to haul. But when you are looking for a way to entertain the kids this Summer, it's an easy solution and something we should never take for granted. Bonus, the new pizza joint on Sullivan's Island, 450 Pizza Joint, is the perfect place to grab a slice and some ice cream before or after the beach. It's cheap, delicious, and can be a new family beach tradition.

Neighborhood pools are another great way to cool off and catch up with friends. If your neighborhood doesn't have a pool, go to a friend's. Even if you do have one, it's always fun to pool hop with other Mount Pleasant Mamas.  We like to set playdates at each other's pools. It's a change of scenery for the kids, and a nice break for you! If a pool is what your neighborhood is missing, give Ed Hunnicutt a call and we will find you the perfect home in a neighborhood with the amenities you are longing for!

Need a break from the pool? Try an afternoon at one of the many water parks in town. Our Mount Pleasant favorite is Splash Island in Palmetto Islands County Park.  There are pools for every age, a lazy river, and super cool slides.  With a huge toddler area, it's especially great for 1 and 2 year olds that may be more limited at a traditional pool.  And if you don't have a neighborhood pool, check out the Summer membership. It's way less than joining a community pool, and a fun alternative for playdates.

Looking for some dry fun? Take them out to the ball game! The Charleston Riverdogs never disappoint. We were recently surprised to hear a fellow mom say she thought Riverdogs games were for adults. Noway! They are a ball for the entire family! One of our agents started bringing her son when he was 3 months old, and now at 2, it's his very favorite thing to do.  Tickets are cheap, the food is insanely good, and the beer is local.  Charlie T. Riverdog always puts on a great show, and there are different promotions and activities every night. Check out their schedule, and take the family out to the Joe!

For fun evening entertainment, Coconut Joes on Isle of Palms hit it out of the park this year! The beachfront restaurant is hosting Sunday Family Fun Day every Sunday night this Summer, and it is amazing.  Live music by John Cusatis is interactive and kid-friendly. Kids join the stage singing their favorite songs (and our's), while playing the bongos, washboards, and maracas.  For just $8, kids get a ballon figure, face painting, dinner, and a scoop of ice cream. Adults and children 3 and under are free, so it is a really fun and affordable night out with awesome ocean views!

With so much to do for you and the littles, we can truly live on vacation all Summer long! When you are out enjoying all this town has to offer, remember to thank the good Lord for making you a Mount Pleasant Mama!
